AFRICAN SYMPHONICS

for Orchestra, Soloists, Choir and African Dance

These concerts are more than just Symphony concerts. They are about building bridges between the different cultures  in order to cement the national policy of reconciliation. A mixture of classical, traditional and contemporary African music is usually featured in these programmes.

The concerts are about interaction between the young and the old. In recent years, the Orchestra has invited numerous cultural groups and musicians to join them in their annual „Independence Concert“ on March 21st. Their contribution led to a fusion of the so called „classical“ European music and indigenous Namibian songs and dances.

Conductor Adolf Thelen in collaboration with the African-Namibian musicians has composed and orchestrated various scores, which were performed live in Windhoek over the past five years. The "African Symphonics" have become a landmark in the Namibian music scene and are widely appreciated and respected.
